The swinging, bluesy, jazz singer Barbara Morrison has died aged 72, US media are reporting. Morrison had been battling cardiovascular disease and a fundraiser was set up for her earlier this month. Morrison hailed from Michigan and moved in her twenties to Los Angeles and began working with the likes of Eddie ''Cleanhead'' Vinson. Over the years she performed with a wide array of luminaries including Gerald Wilson, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, James Moody, Ron Carter, Etta James and Esther Phillips. Her own albums included 1990s albums I Know How to Do It and most recently Warm and Cozy.
