In the best improvised jazz solo category the winner is the late Chick Corea for 'All Blues' who also won in the best jazz instrumental album category for Trilogy 2 by Chick Corea, Christian McBride and Brian Blade.
In the best jazz vocal album category the winner is Secrets Are The Best Stories by Kurt Elling Featuring Danilo Pérez. This was a great win for the Edition label. Kurt name checked Dave Stapleton of the UK jazz label among his thanks.
Robert Glasper won for best R&B song with 'Better Than I Imagined'.
In best instrumental composition ‘Sputnik’ by Maria Schneider won. Schneider also won in the best large jazz ensemble album category for Data Lords by the Maria Schneider Orchestra.
In the progressive R&B album category the winner is It Is What It Is by Thundercat.
In the best latin jazz album category the winner is Four Questions by Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.
In best arrangement, instrumental or a cappella ‘Donna Lee’ arranged by John Beasley won.
In best arrangement, instruments and vocals 'He Won't Hold You' by Jacob Collier feat. Rapsody, won. Later this evening Collier, who is nominated in the still-to-be-announced main album category, is also a presenter.
