Track of the day is the dweller on the threshold rippling dream jazz of Lisbeth Quartett's 'Full Circling' drawn from Release out on 17 June. A Charlotte Greve composition the saxophonist here with the long-established grouping of pianist Manuel Schmiedel, bassist Marc Muellbauer and drummer Moritz Baumgärtner. A theme rather than a theme-and-then-full-development (let alone deconstruction or full improvisation) is what's going on here, and all will be surely revealed on the other tracks as to the full panorama beyond this very fetching blueprint. Deutscher artist-of-the-year-winning Greve recorded the tracks that make up Release in an Osnabrück studio last autumn. The drum part is free-sounding while essentially piano, bass and sax repeat the same motif, Muellbauer deftly moving out of step while Schmiedel is a shadower in relief down river of the saxophonic slipstream.

Trombone icon Grachan Moncur III known for his extensive work with Archie Shepp died at the age of 85 on Friday. Tributes online include from Blue Note Records whose official Twitter account writes: ''We’re deeply saddened to hear that the brilliant trombonist & composer Grachan Moncur III died earlier today on his 85th birthday. His 1960s Blue Note albums –Evolution and Some Other Stuff – are absolute treasures of creative jazz.''

US public radio station NPR who broke the news of his passing subsequently syndicated throughout the States writes, again on Twitter, that Moncur III ''helmed a handful of adventurous albums for Blue Note and Impulse! In the 1960s and flanked artists like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Jackie McLean.''
