The swinging Freddie Hubbard-esque 'Eliud' from hard bopper Mark Kavuma and the Banger Factory's upcoming Arashi No Ato (''After The Storm'') is today's sparkling track of the day and the best new piece heard on d'blog all week. Notable solos on the deeply mellow night timer are gorgeous from guitarist Artie Zaitz and digging in tenderly trombonist Trevor Edwards. Kavuma himself is an elegant presence feeding through. Best of all is a joy to hear David Mrakpor who already has greatness written all over him whatever instrument he plays whether comping or breaking free here on vibes. The album itself is out next week on Kavuma's new Banger Factory Records label.

Kavuma and the Banger Factory play Ronnie Scott's on Thursday 7 October
