Still ''ages'' to release date but we keep returning to the only track available so far of one of the albums that we are most looking forward to this year… so listen again with us to the formidably grooving futuristic sounding quartet track 'I'll Build a World' from guitarist Miles Okazaki's Thisness to be released by the Pi label. Okazaki is with his Trickster band of avant pianist Matt Mitchell and Okazaki's fellow Steve Coleman players drummer Sean Rickman and expat Brit bass guitarist Anthony Tidd. You can't take anything for granted on an Okazaki record as the solos twist and turn in exhilarating fashion. Miles Okazaki photo: Twitter

An unusual album given that guitarist Artie Zaitz and trumpeter Mark Kavuma choose instead to put a 1961 Hammond C-3 Organ and a 1971 Wurlitzer 200A Electric Piano as the backbone of their rapport although Kavuma does provide some beautiful trumpet on 'Mia's Waltz'. There's real empathy between the two, nice support from drummer William Cleasby and above all a warm, retro feeling throughout that manifests itself on the attractive 'Church' and an atmospheric 'Round Midnight'. Released last month it slipped out quietly. A gem nonetheless that is worth seeking out, catching up on right away, and spending a lot of quality time with post-haste.
