Kris Bowers' extraordinary career continues with a second Emmy nomination this week. He is fast becoming his generation's Terence Blanchard in terms of a jazz musician writing for TV and film. Not that long ago (2011) the pianist won the Monk competition, and then immersed himself in high profile touring, playing with singer Jose James for instance. He also played a sideman role on Nate Smith's excellent Kinfolk a few years ago. But then his profile turned to film composition and high profile work at that. He wrote the score for the movie Green Book and then went on on to gain an Emmy nomination last year for When They See Us and announced this week a second for Mrs America.
