Camilla George launches the Sligo Jazz Project 2022 with an event at the Hawk's Well theatre on 15 June.

The festival itself is next month with Tony Kofi, Trypl, Christine Tobin, Cathal Roche, the Daniel Herskedal Trio, the Nikki Iles Jazz Orchestra featuring Mike Walker, and the Paul Clarvis quartet feat. Cathy Jordan among the many Sligo highlights in prospect.

The festival's artistic director Eddie Lee writes in the 2022 programme notes: ''Our Artist-in-Residence this year is award-winning UK composer and bandleader Nikki Iles. We have assembled an all-star jazz orchestra for her performance on Thursday 21 July which like many of our events at Sligo Jazz each year, gives it that familiar one-off appeal. It highlights the return of guitarist Mike Walker, who last time round was a member of the band in residence, jazz supergroup The Impossible Gentlemen, and for whom Nikki has written several pieces of music. Her husband Pete Churchill is here too, one of the UK’s most celebrated jazz vocal educators and arrangers, so expect him to pop up where you’d least expect.'' Alan Barnes and Bruce Adams, the Karen Sharp Quartet and the JTQ are some of the main acts to appear at this month's Swansea International Jazz Festival in Wales. And coming up in July during the Wigan Jazz Festival classic jazz singer Claire Martin OBE and pianist Dave Newton are among the headliners heading to Lancashire. Both these summertime festivals among a range of elements focus on a shared if not always overlapping interest in different interpretations of heritage bop, the Great American Songbook, straightahead and big band-derived approaches. Other styles also make their presence felt beyond this selection of some of the established names involved. Simon Spillett with his big band playing the music of Tubby Hayes hit both Swansea (24 June) and Wigan (8 July). Claire Martin, top left, and Dave Newton play Wigan on the festival's opening night

Dates for Swansea are 23-26 June. Further information

Dates for Wigan are 7-10 July. Updated Wigan info
