Brooklyn label 577 Records have a stimulating number of avant releases this autumn including from Shifa Live in Oslo (that's from Rachel Musson, Pat Thomas and Mark Sanders following on from a live at Oto release) and a sax-piano free improv record by Cooper-Moore and Stephen Gauci. This track 'SignGhost Theatre' from the Telepathic Band's upcoming release caught my ear best of all, an elegant plangent serenity settling in through the studio improvisation from the seasoned grouping of Daniel Carter (reeds/trumpet), Patrick Holmes (clarinet), Matthew Putman (piano, keys), Hilliard Greene (bass), and Federico Ughi (drums). Telepathic Mysteries, Vol. 1 comes out in mid-October. It's fresh and meaningful.
