Straightahead heaven here it's not at all rash to suggest. The only thing to do here when the track ends is to play it again. With a Rolls-Royce of a band you feel you have stepped into a world that does not exist any more, the sort of theme that used to pop up on TV shows and films in the 1970s. There's an effortlessness, a swinging empathy and the feel is just perfect from trombonist Steve Davis here with a who's who of the straightahead scene, guitarist Peter Bernstein, vibraphonist Steve Nelson, pianist Geoffrey Keezer, bassist Christian McBride and drummer Willie Jones III. I can't wait to hear the rest of the record which is out in May on the Smoke Sessions label. SG
