Good to have the muscular no-nonsense jazz-rock fusion of Nate Wood, Will Vinson and Gilad Hekselman back again with a fiery new studio album. Guitarist Hekselman provides plenty of meaty soloing and we also liked the additional squelch of synth that saxist Vinson dubs in every so often. Best track is 'Dancing Girls' which has a funky helterskelter feel to it drummer Wood at his best here. All three players are up to the task of pushing the pace on. Vinson should be better known as a saxist and writer (the tunes are written by either Vinson or Hekselman) and can just as easily cook as show plenty of tenderness as happens winningly on another standout, 'In My Head.'

Groove is the name of the game rather than the strict confines of genre courtesy of the mighty rhythm section Butcher Brown from Richmond, Virginia in the States - you'll know their work perhaps with Kurt Elling as well as their own burgeoning catalogue. Solar Music is an eclectic crossover tour of jazz, hip-hop and soul to dip in and out of according to taste. Guests include Pink Siifu, Braxton Cook, Jay Prince, Nappy Nina, Keyon Harrold, Michael Millions and Charlie Hunter. The track we gravitated to most is 'Espionage.'
