There's no sense of ''heard it all before'' here on this imaginative blending of elements from electronica musician BlankFor. ms, pianist Jason Moran and drummer Marcus Gilmore. BlankFor. ms (Tyler Gilmore) was once a student of Moran's and clearly has absorbed a lot from the piano master. But here also he has his own style and ideas using tape loops as raw ingredients that combining with the abstract sweep of Moran's deftly succinct piano lines and the busy percussive engine of the whole record provided by former Vijay Iyer drummer Marcus Gilmore emerge from a certain futuristic darkness. Once again Red Hook comes up with an album that rejects the obvious and seeks out the new to effect.
