There are few more talked about drummers than the German player Christian Lillinger and you can understand why on this breeze of a record, a quietly determined fracturing of any of the norms we have been accustomed to on a jazz record in recent years. Last year the studio version of many of the pieces here was a definite highlight and this new release stands up well if you listen side by side. With a pan European line-up Kaja Draksler plays a significant role fleshing out some of Lillinger's ideas and the remarkable thing about this record is its anarchy and feeling of collective endeavour that is so refreshing and natural. Personnel includes Kit Downes associate cellist Luly Railton and the Django Bates bassist Petter Eldh. Out on the Plaist label.
