A great new name to follow here in Norwegian bassist John Børge Askeland on this beautiful release from back in the autumn. Askeland is joined by the great trumpeter Arve Henriksen, pianist Eyolf Dale and drummer Helge Andreas Norbakken. You get the feeling of say the world of the Belonging Band a little on 'Tuesday'. But more pervasively there is a certain awe and wonder in the nature and spirtuality that Askeland takes inspiration in carefully conveyed. Often modal and spaciously conceived in the writing Henriksen is magnificent in his muezzin-like call to musical prayer on 'Interlude 2'. The whole thing in its weight and impact feels as mighty as a symphony, all the pieces somehow intricately connecting with the greater whole.
