Gemini is not only for saxophone lovers - the latest from British composer/soprano saxophonist/bass clarinettist Rob Cope due in January. But certainly that is one source of appeal approaching this set of a dozen eclectic originals that travel from chamber jazz and bebop as far out as the avant-garde written for tenorist Andy Scott, pianist Liam Noble and drummer Paul Clarvis all of whom appear with Cope on the album.
It's a first time out for the band on record and Cope says: ''For me, music should be fun to play but also challenging, and I wanted to combine my love of difficult, contemporary saxophone music with improvisation, and hopefully contribute to the repertoire in a unique way.''
A couple of tracks are streaming already ahead of the 12 January issuing date including 'Together' above. Gemini is on the Ubuntu label. Rob Cope, photo: via Ubuntu
