Time to Swing isn't a post-modernist statement but if you like your jazz to swing and sound like it was made in the 1960s or even the 50s then drummer Joe Farnsworth's new record to be released on the Smoke Sessions label in September should be right up your street. Wynton Marsalis joins Kenny Barron, Peter Washington and Farnsworth in quite a line-up the trumpeter featuring in the early part of the album. The album includes compositions by pianist Barron along with Great American Songbook standards including the title track Cole Porter evergreen. Barron on the album is with Jeremy Brown on bass and Josh Morrison on drums. The pianist studied at the Leeds College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and in his career to date he has performed with Phil Woods, Grant Stewart, Patti Austin, Al Jarreau, Marlena Shaw, John Marshall and Dave O’Higgins among many others appearing on more than 30 albums. Look for the release on 2 October.
