We return today to another fine track drawn from The Betrayal by the Enemy trio - Kit Downes, Petter Eldh, James Maddren - the trio switching to the avant-garde Finnish label WeJazz for their latest album following on from Vermillion last year. The choppy and busy - ultimately quite romantic sounding - 'Neglecting Number One' from the album to be issued on 22 September is the second pre-release track after mention of the ruggedly compelling 'Hollywood Bypass' in these pages. The Betrayal features original material by Downes and Eldh and was recorded in a Berlin studio last year. Enemy are back in the UK with dates at Cafe Oto in London on 25 October and Eastside, Birmingham next night. Kit Downes, top, in the photo

Sturdy jazz-rock fusion from this incendiary sax, guitar, drums trio - Nate Wood providing the energy level while Will Vinson and Gilad Hekselman dispense the fiery top line cocktail. A studio recording made earlier this year drawn from the full album of the same name out in November there's some tremendous guitar soloing from Hekselman and above all a drive and determination from all three to push and push all the way through. The full album is quite a prospect and ahead of its release the band are playing the Vortex on 24 October in one of the club's best bookings of the autumn.
