South East London's Eltham Jazz Club newly christened Hugh and Marion's turns a new page in its history as singer Georgia Mancio and drummer Dave Ohm take on the running of the club naming the regular night in honour of Hugh and Marion Ockendon who promoted jazz in Eltham for many years. A re-opening concert is planned for next month. Hugh, who died in 2020, was a pianist, and Marion continued their work together until she too passed away in the autumn.

Best known for her work with the iconic pianist and arranger Alan Broadbent, Parliamentary Jazz Award winning Georgia curated and ran London's acclaimed ReVoice festival.

For this new venture together with her partner Dave - son of the acclaimed actor Peter Vaughan (Grouty in Porridge) and best known for his live work with Gregory Porter circa Water and Be Good - the pair plan to present Thursday concerts in season every other week, commenting: ''We will do our best to nurture the club and make it thrive for as long as possible, knowing how precious and essential music, art, creativity, community and connection are for us all.''

Coming up is Sarah Moule and Shireen Francis who appear in Eltham on Thursday night; Georgia then sings on 12 January leading a quartet that features flautist Gareth Lockrane; saxophonist Allison Neale follows on the 26th; the legendary singer Elaine Delmar appears on 9 February; tenor saxophone star Denys Baptiste plays the club on 23 Feb; jazz vocals icon Liane Carroll follows on 9 March; and influential saxophonist Stan Sulzmann appears on 23 March. Hugh and Marion's is based in the clubhouse of the Eltham Warren Golf Club, Bexley Road, London SE9.

The plangent sounding trumpet of Nick Malcolm is evident first off on 'Platinum 1'. A very fine passage from pianist Rebecca Nash on 'Ruthenium' is also worth noting particularly for the jousting with drummer Matt Fisher on this studio recording made in April this year. All the tracks have titles that link as names of precious metals. Malcolm is again highly listenable to on 'Osmium' and on 'Rhodium' altoist John O'Gallagher is as usual a scalding and stimulating presence.

Nash's unselfconsciously modernistic writing is excellent and Redefining Element 78 is a highly original work. Other personnel include guitarist Jamie Leeming who plays a significant role in the success of 'Osmium' and bass guitarist Paul Michael who was superb three years ago on Byron Wallen's Portrait: Reflections on Belonging and key here. Nick Walters and Chris Mapp on electronics are also on the record. Redefining Element 78 play the Bath Jazz Weekend on 7 January
