Ritual issued last year found Leo Genovese and Demian Cabaud with Jeff Williams. This time in a similar setting the two Argentinian players are joined by Portuguese drummer Marcos Cavaleiro. The title ''Estrellero'' refers to a horse that can never be properly trained. And here and in other passages throughout the recording the trio show plenty of freedom-loving instincts while resisting the urge elsewhere to go completely out. Genovese has a spectacular technique. At times he is reminiscent of the ingenuity Danilo Pérez displays in some of his piano trio recordings - certainly you gain a florid, imagistic, passion in both superb pianists' playing. Tunes includes bassist Cabaud's title 'Qom,' inspired by ''the language of the indigenous Qom people of northeastern Argentina,'' as described in the Bandcamp notes, and another of his originals the sombre 'Dia de la Madre' where there is evocative arco work. An album that rewards patience. And certainly you discover new things in the writing on subsequent listens the deeper you journey given the open ended nature of the approach.
